Friend wants corvette. How stupid is he ?

Scotty, you’re going to love hearing this. My friend is 18 years old and works in a warehouse making minimum wage. He is looking to have his had co-sign with him on financing a 2007-2008 Corvette with a manual transmission. He doesn’t know how to drive a manual so he says he will be learning in THAT ! It’s like a 400-500 horsepower car. I imagine that maintaining and fixing that thing will be expensive. That’s not the worst part. He will be LEARNING how to drive a manual transmission car in a 400 horsepower car. When I learned manual, it was in a 120 horsepower car and I still screeched the tires in that thing when taking off from a stop so I am pretty sure that he will end up milking himself by driving a manual for the first time in a car with 400+ horsepower. My only hope for him is that his dad is pretty wealthy but knowing how his dad is, I know his dad won’t just hand him money to fix the stupid thing every 20 minutes. Now tell me, how stupid is he ?! Because I personally think he’s insane. I told him to get a Civic SI if he wants something sporty because it’s safer and more reliable

I don’t know why it autocorrected to “milking” lol I meant to type “killing”

I think this is more of a forum based off car questions and advice than sharing your hate/opinion about someone we don't even know and a car he doesn't even have. I think youtube comment section is more appropriate for this.

I agree. Lately people are treating it like facebook. I need to step up the moderating.

it'll be a great lesson in economics. He's a kid so that doesn't surprise me.

What surprises me is that his dad is willing to co-sign. THAT is stupid!

The car is going to get wrecked. The kid is making peanuts. The dad is one who will be on the hook.

Yep and the worst part is, the co-signing process is the ONLY part his dad will be willing to help him out with. If it gets wrecked, or breaks down, his dad won’t help him fix it. He’s on his own after that. His dad bought his older brother his first car and he ended up wrecking it a year later... his dad refused to buy him another one

good. he shouldn't

Everybody is different in terms of how quickly they mature and how responsible they are.

Nobody is ready for a Corvette at 18.

Sounds like another spoiled kid. I see that a lot in my business. I've done Sweet 16 builds for daughters of wealthy clients, and of course tons of first car builds and deliveries for sons of the same. It is tough working on something for 6-8 weeks and then tossing the keys to a kid. Don't get me wrong, I get paid and I agree anyone can spend their money on whatever legal items they want. I'm legitimately happy for them to be so lucky.

But its knowing that it will be back in two weeks time smashed up and needing repair that really sucks. Kinda like an artist watching someone drag a knife down the center of his masterpiece. UGH.

Ah well, double payday my way. {black}

He isn't stupid but his reasoning is questionable, more so the fact that his dad cosigned to finance a Corvette with a manual transmission for a 16 year old. Maybe an Accord V6 Coupe Manual would of been a better choise;)

Best of luck the most important thing is that he doesn't get killed driving that thing.

Yea and the worst part is, I know for sure his dad will only help him with the co-signing part but will have nothing to do with helping him out if the stupid thing breaks down or gets wrecked

I was under the impression that the only people who could legally buy Corvettes were guys over 75 years old with white hair and an inferiority complex. Ha Ha!

He is in for a rude awakening.  We’ll see how long the vehicle lasts, but that is not a wise move financially.

I’m currently trying to talk him into getting a 2012-2015 Toyota Camry V6 or a Honda Civic SI. Knowing how he drives, the Corvette won’t last long. He already blew the transmission out on his dad’s Mercedes

The first car I ever bought was a 1968 Corvette convertable small block when I was 18 in 1982.  I drove it for 5 years

It was AWESOME and I wish I still owned it

I don’t think he is stupid.

If he has the money, or his dad has the money and his dad is okay with it, I really don’t give a damn.

If it were my choice, I wouldn’t make such a decision for myself as a teen or for my kid. But it doesn’t make the choice stupid.
