Are newer Volvos reliable compared to older ones?
The newer ones don't seem to be as good as the older ones sadly. I wouldn't recommend buying a brand new one.
The era of the solid-built, rear-drive "brick" Volvos that could last 500K miles (even a million) is way in the past.
All the modern Volvos are European high tech vehicles owned by Chinese company Geely. Volvos used to make good, long lasting vehicles back in the day, but if you plan to buy and hold on to a modern Volvo vehicle beyond the warranty period it is a gamble. The engine choices range from 2.0L Turbo 4 cylinder to a 2.0L Turbo and Supercharged 4 cylinder to a plug-in hybrid (with turbo and supercharged 4 cylinder with an electric motor) all very complex - and that is not even accounting for all the electronics making up the car. My advice: if you like it, lease one.
No.
