my daughter just visited orlando vw dealer for 2018 tiquan automatic 66,000 miles for help with her navigator which they fixed but was told she must have her water pump and thermostat changed immediately and they suggest another 1200 dollars worth of work such as carbon scraping agm battery plugs wipers filters etc what do you suggest?
Take the car to an independent honest mechanic for a second opinion.
Ok most of these things are common sense to verify
- filters. Which filters? The oil filters gets changed with the oil. If you've never changed the engine air filter in 66k then you definitely need a new one. It takes a couple of minutes to pull it out and check it yourself. Cabin air filter: same thing. Pull it out and check it. Refer to your owner's manual for details. Transmission filter will be be due by now too.
- Wipers: I hope I don't need to explain this one
- Spark plugs: No. Too soon. Again refer to owner's manual
- Battery: does the car start every time?
- Carbon scraping: maybe if it's a GDI engine. That's VW for ya
- water pump + thermostat: Is the car overheating? Leaking coolant?
First and foremost don't go to a dealer they always charge you for stuff you don't need is working perfectly fine
Second take your car to an independent mechanic and now it is hard to find one so I recommend checking the reviews online but I recommend going to Christian brothers or city garage those guys know what they are doing
- Coolant Leak at the Front-Center of your Car.
- Rust, Deposit Buildup, and Corrosion of the Water Pump.
- Water Pump Pulley is Loose and Making Whining Sounds.
- Engine is Overheating.
- Steam Coming from your Radiator.
