Hello Scotty,

Hello All,

I am looking to buy a new car and currently am all over the place as I just cannot decide on what I should buy.

I wanted to get a used 2020 Lexus RX350 with 8k miles on it (some scratches outside, on every corner, this is in NYC). However the dealer didn't even want to negotiate on the price and it came to a point where they said, take it for leave it. They priced it at 47 grand.

I left the dealership and wanted to check what can I buy for that kind of money.

I narrowed down my likings to two other cars for that kind of money.

- New 2022 Acura MDX - The new Acura MDX starts at 46k and with the technology options goes to 53k ( I wondered if I was going to pay 47k, I might as well pay 53 for a new car).

- New 2021 Mazda CX9 - This one fully loaded Signature trim comes to 46k as well.

I kind of like both cars and I really do not know which one should I opt for.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you guys have other options in mind?

What would be the wiser choice, considering I would keep the car for a long time.

Thanks for your advise as usual.

Best regards,

Astrit Hoxha

If you plan to keep for a long time, and looks like you are limiting yourself to the luxury vehicles, I would get the Lexus RX350.

The price of used and new cars are crazy these days. But if you have to buy one, between these options, I would choose RX350 and MDX over the CX9.

I’ll pick a Lexus/Acura, before I pick a Mazda.

With that said, have you test driven any/all of them? Do they all fit your requirements?

If you want my opinion get a toyota avalon or camry v6 and if you prefer honda get accord or civic but if you prefer luxury lexus and acura both are reliable cars and can last for life time when taken care of properly.

I lived in newyork for 5 years so I know how it is there. Some dealership are really greedy and they don't give a dam about customers when selling products. So I recommend checking reviews of the dealer and make sure you know what is the msrp of the car and the dealer don't aecced it.

Also take it for a test drive and Good Luck

Thanks all for your suggestions.

Sadly I am limited to only buying an SUV, because those are the requirements at the moment.

No one mentioned Mazda, so that leaves me to believe that they are not that reliable vehicles?

Thanks,

@astrithoxha the Mazda CX-9 is OK and being 5 years into this 2nd generation (came out for 2016 model year) is a good choice, too, with the kinks presumably worked out.  Now it is turbocharged and in general I usually recommend naturally aspirated engines over turbocharged engines to members (if they have a choice) since they tend to last longer and have fewer issues over time. Also, the price points are all same on these vehicles and so your best bet is that Lexus, especially if you already tested one and found you liked it.  But make no mistake Mazda is a good, reliable brand and ranks in my book behind Toyota and Honda currently.
