I have 2500...i was a homeless vet...i have spent the last few years getting my life nack on track. All is going well but i am ready to buy a vehicle...what do you suggest?
- Thanks!
Well done getting your life sorted.
To be honest, I wouldn't recommend buying a $2500 car at all unless you're mechanically inclined. It will end up being more trouble than it's worth. Keep saving up.
Depending on what region you are in I find used toyota yaris all over the place for under 2k. Great on gas, reliable, cheap insurance, and plenty of storage space as long as youre not hauling people around. If you want something a bit bigger find a used late 90s or in some cases a 2006-2012 honda civic that isnt clapped out. I would avoid 01-05 civics due to head gasket issues, vtec solenoid issues, and automatic transmission issues. Really depends on location. Hope my recommendations help and Ill be praying for continued improvement and success!
You can’t get anything halfway decent for $2,500 in this crazy market. I guarantee you will spend several thousand more to get it sorted, so you might as well wait and save.

I agree with @jppc16,
A Toyota Yaris/Echo that hasn't rusted and doesn't have severe issues would be ideal.
Maybe you can get a euro Yaris, they were sold for a few years in the US and they're good.
They're called the Vitz, and they're delightful little cars. A bit hard to fix, but they rarely breakdown.
Also some small Scions like the xD can be very good.
Currently car prices are insanely high, so I think a Yaris is a good solution.
Just do not overpay - these are cheap economy cars, and they shouldn't cost too much even if prices are inflated.
