Scotty I need a new truck and I want something super dependable and long lasting but I want more truck than the Tacoma or tundra. Am I making a mistake buying a brand new 2022 silverado 2500? Should I get an F250 instead? Your thoughts please
Avoid the F150 and Chevy 1500. Both are complete trash.
Go 2500 or Super Duty.
I believe we save the 'complete trash' title for FCA vehicles around here 😆 😉
Ah yes. Agreed. My bad. {black}
The 2500 GM’s are better built than their 1500s.
With that said, their long term reliability is still unknown.
Heres what Scotty thinks about GM work trucks -
For dependability, if you can afford it, I say go F-250 6.7L Powerstroke diesel. The 6.7's have been the most reliable Ford diesel engine since the 7.3 and have had no problems going 350,000+ miles.
The Duramax on the Chevy's are great, but the fit and finish and build quality of the rest of the truck isn't as good
If youŕe willing to spend the money to get the F-250 6.7, do it. You won´t regret it.
Get the Silverado 2500 or the Super Duty F-250 but do your research for example I know some of the newer GM trucks have major transmission issues so if its one of the ones recalled don't get it.
I would go with the Ford F-250 with the true and tried 6.2L gas V8 with the 6-speed AT. I like the 7.3L pushrod V8 engine as well but it is fairly new and there could potentially be some issues/kinks because of that - we have to wait a couple years to see how it holds up (Scotty would agree). Plus regarding the 10-speed AT that comes with the 7.3L V8, the jury is still out on its longevity, and Ford has already had issues (and a class action lawsuit) with the 10-speeds in their regular F-150s. At least the 6.2L has been out for a while with the 6-speed. I would not get a diesel truck unless you absolutely need it (for a business) or tow very heavy loads that even a gas engine is not well suited for. Diesels will be very expensive to repair if something goes wrong with the system - not DIY-friendly compared to the gas engines. See warning below from master Mechanic The Car Wizard at 12:51
