Why Does MY Brake Pedal Go To The Floor

Topic starter

Just changed the front caliper on a 2016 Kia Soul. And now the pedal goes all the way to the floor. I installed new pads on both sides.

Fluid was topped off and I saw no leaks. Thanks for any and all help.

Did you bleed the air out?

I did bleed the air out using the method Scotty demonstrated on one of his youtube videos. Where he uses a long screwdriver (crammed between the pedal and drivers seat) to push and hold down the pedal to force air out. Then tighten the nuts and remove the screwdriver. Repeated 4 times as suggested , but still the same. Pedal still goes to the floor.

You have air in the brake system.  Get a friend to pump and hold while you bleed right rear, left rear, right front, left front.

Do you think Scotty's method of loosening the lines that go into the master cylinder , push/hold the brake pedal , then tighten the lines would work? On his youtube video he did this (he says to do it about 4 to 5 times). I tried it once but I was working by myself using something to hold the pedal down while I tightened the nuts on the master cylinder. Unfortunately I , being an apartment dweller , don't have easy access to a garage for car maintenance. And thanks for the help and suggestion.

Check some of Scotty's old You Tubes.

There are many Brake Bleeding answers.

Not all Brake Systems are not the same.

Did you use a scan tool capable of bleeding ABS brakes?

Unfortunately don't have one. I'm more of a shade-tree mechanic.
