Hello Scott,

I have a 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis with 24k miles and when I drive the door ajar light comes on the dash and the dome lights also stay on and the tpms light flashes, sometimes after I turn the car off and get out the dome lights stay on and I need to open and close the door several times to get the lights to shut off, what can be the problem?

 Thanks Scott

faulty door switch or wires in door wiring harness

Like the moderator said. One problem. In the old days the door ajar switch was on the door jamb.

Easy replacement. 5 minutes.

It looked like this. Usually 1 screw and a wiring connector.

It's pretty easy to see if yours is on the door jamb or not. (Don't see it? It isn't there)

By 2011 I think that Ford moved that door ajar switch to the Door Latch assembly (at least in its Luxury lines, Lincoln/Mercury) (also 20ll was the end of Mercury)

That means you have to pull off the interior door skin to get to it. Depending on where it's located on the latch, you may have to pull out the door latch to get to it.

The problem is the switch's pintle is sticking. It's in the door latch and a lot of crud gets in there.

With these "latch mounted" door ajar switches sometimes you can "free them up" by spraying WD40 directly into the latch.

You stick the straw right into the latch and spray a bunch in there and then open and close the door, maybe 20 times. Then repeat. See if you can clean the crud off of the switch.

If not, you have to get into the door. At that point you don't want to try to clean the switch, just replace it
