Hi Scotty,

I am looking at either a 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor 100k miles for $4700 (v6 auto trans)

or

2005 Infiniti fx35 with 157k miles $7000 (v6 rwd)

which one would you recommend?

I'm sorry @infinitifxfan, but your info is wrong on this one.

Yes, the FX35 shares parts with the 350, but to say it is "a 350Z underneath" is the same as saying a Camaro is a Corvette with a backseat. Both are wrong on so many levels.

And I'm a fan of the FX35 style-wise and engine wise. But as they age, they have all the typical Infiniti issues and they are NOT cheap to fix. I've worked on plenty and would not recommend one.

I also wouldn't recommend an Endeavor. My suggestion would be to strike them both off the list and keep looking for a more reliable vehicle.

but here is the thing, it is mostly a 350z underneath just with the addition of AWD, more tech, and more space, it has the same powertrain, same FM platform, and same switchgear. Nissan and Infinitis are kind of strange reliability-wise because ownership experience can drastically change depending on the engine and transmission choice you make, which has been a big thing with their cars since Renault took over Nissan (and I have talked to some Nissan/Infiniti mechanics). Also, not everyone wants a Toyota or Honda (even if they like them as I do) and I have seen potential out of some of the good Nissan/Infinitis in the 2000s era and irl I have seen G35/G37/Fx35/45 with over 300k km that still run strong and they did the regular maintenance and not spend too much money. Infinitis are much better built than the Nissans with most made in Japan and using more reliable powertrains as most were RWD based. Aside from the dashboard melting which Infiniti has issued recalls for (Toyota and Lexus had similar issues with some of their cars around the same years), the rest of the car is not that bad. The problem is Infinitis are just ragged out by so many people (especially young teens or adults) and horribly maintained and that's where they break down and they add up to big repair bills, and yes it's no Lexus but not everyone wants one. Here I was just telling the person to go for the Infiniti based on his options if he had his heart set on both but can't decide which one to pick. Plus as Scotty said in the video I attached, if it's been well taken care of, it might not be a bad idea to buy one.

I have no issue with you recommending one based on your opinion. I just ask you allow others to state their opinion as well without saying they are wrong. Personally, I have owned one Infiniti. It overheated on the 3rd day I owned it. It was a G35 coupe and the fans stopped working. This is a common problem on the car come to find out and there was even a recall for the issue. And the dealer tried to tell me the aluminum engine would be ok. That alone made me swear off the brand. But having worked on older ones, yes...they can potentially run a long time BUT not without issue. I'm by no means a Toyota or Honda fanboy....I have an extensive collection of American muscle cars and specialize in working on muscle cars/exotics. So I understand the desire to own something that's more fun to drive than, say, a Toyota Prius. But IMO Infiniti isn't worth the money and isn't a good product. I have had good experiences with Lexus and Toyota, so I have no issues recommending them based on my experience and that's just my opinion. You are free to disagree of course, as is anyone.

Here's a sample of Infinity quality.

well realize Infiniti is not the only one with this issue, Lexus Toyota has had this issue.

and they did fix it when it was redesigned in 2009.

We get it. You bought an Infinity, and you need to feel better about your purchase.

I wouldn't buy either. The Infiniti one is going to be worse because it's too much money that they're asking and with that mileage- it's going to fall apart and the bills will keep coming in.

I would keep looking.

Its not a money pit. Fx35 is basically a 350z underneath it with a crossover shape. Those FX35s were very reliable, made in Japan, and I have seen them with over 300k miles and they still run strong. Scotty approves those 1st gen Infiniti Fx SUVs. Double-check ur opinions before posting them pls.

Please don't tell someone to "double check their opinion". That doesn't even make sense as it is an opinion, not a statement presented as absolute fact. And in fact, his opinion is pretty factually correct...in my opinion. {black}

Thank you @mod_man.

You're welcome @kesterpaul62.

Fx35 all the way. They are much better made than the Mitsubishi. Realize the Endeavor is made in the United States and the FX which is basically a 350z underneath it is made in Japan. However $7000 is kinda steep, I would offer at max $5000.
