Hi Scotty,  love your channel.  I am currently waiting on my New F350 Tremor package with the 7.3L gas engine.  Was wondering your thoughts on the engine.  Might be worth a video for you.

Well, this engine is still fairly new, but it’s got a couple noteworthy things going for it:  naturally aspirated,  overhead valve V8 (aka pushrod),  port injection only (and no GDI),  cast iron block,  forged steel crank, a detuned version will be used in commercial vehicles.  Seems like a good option for folks that want more towing capability but not go whole hog with a diesel. It will be mated with the 10-speed automatic, which is supposedly upgraded for heavier duty applications, so it won’t be the same one used in the F-150.  Ideally, and Scotty would say the same, I’d tell anyone interested to wait a few years and see how the engine/transmission hold up.

Simple push rod design, no cylinder deactivation or GDI nonsense. Just a straight up V8. Should be a very rock solid engine overall.

I hope so. I am a sucker for push rod engines and simplicity (true and tried tech), and I gotta admit - this engine appears very good on paper. I hope it lives up to our expectations.

@daywalker I hope so as well, between the redesign of the 5.0 and the ecoboosts the 7.3 gas is about all Ford has left for true reliability for their gas line up as the 6.2 will eventually phase out.
