Anybody on here purchase the new Frontier? If you have how do you like it so far? How’s the 9 speed transmission?  I think it has huge potential to really be a problem for the Tacoma.

I am unsure who’s the supplier for their 9 speed transmission.

If it’s ZF like some of their other new models - I’d say it’s best to avoid it. If it’s Jatco - I’d be VERY cautious and wait for a few years (the old Jatco 7 speed wasn’t all that bad, but they’re not known for making good transmissions)

@dan I believe ZF is the supplier, I mean my experience with trucks that have ZF transmissions have been phenomenal. The 8HP is arguably one of the best truck transmissions made right now.

@usafdozerpilot
ZF makes either very good or terrible transmissions (like the terrible Ford CVTs)
The ZF 9 speed is installed on the worst cars in the world: Fiat 500X, Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade and so on.
And even on those cheap poorly built cars, somehow, the 9 speed is still the weak-spot (they can shift awkwardly from the get-go, after 90k miles they can shift so bad the car is underivable and no one knows how to repair them correctly)
ZF says they fixed it with software but realistically from what I hear, they still shift weird and breakdown.

@dan I guess time will tell with the Frontier 🤷‍♂️

Not likely with the poor quality of recent Nissan products, IMO.

@doc definitely got to give it some time but the frontiers of the past in my opinion, has got a pretty decent record in reliability overall. And I really think Nissan has potentially hit a home run with the new redesign.

Design is one thing, reliability is quite another. Older ones, yes, I agree. New ones, not so much.
