Hi, I have a 2007 Nissan Maxima with 108k miles. I bought it back in March with 104k miles. I decided to check the CVT fluid back in July and noticed it was a little low. I didn't notice any grinding or shifting problems and it still works fine. I checked yesterday because I noticed it took around 5 seconds to shift from park to drive or reverse etc. But no shifting or weird noises coming from the engine/transmission. The CVT fluid was extremely low and I was surprised I didn't have any problems. I checked when engine was hot and on a level surface and went through all the gears before I checked. Fluid wasn't dirty as well. I checked under the car and didn't see any leaks. I'm so confused where the fluid is going because I know it's not burning but I don't see any major leaks or drops anywhere. Please Help!
If there is no leaks in the area of the transmission check the transmission cooler that is in front of the radiator it may be leaking and the oil is stuck on the plastic covers or so and check the cooler lines for any leaks.
@hamza-farmawi Do you know how to check it specifically? I've never looked at the cooler before. Would I have to take the whole front bumper off? Wherever the fluid is going, it's leaking very slowly since it took 2-3 months to almost go empty. It's weird because I haven't had any shifting or weird grinding noises.
To change it you have to but to check it Im nit really sure.
Here is a video of a guy replacing it, it will help you locate it and its lines.
If your cars transmission cooler is built in to the radiator and your not seeing any leaks on the ground, your cvt fluid might be going into your coolant. Coolant will also make its way into the transmission. I know some frontiers had that issue. I don't know about the maximas. Make sure that your fluid does not look "milky" as that might mean that your cvt fluid and coolant are mixing together.
