Dear Scotty,
I have a 2012 Nissan Maxima SV with 123,000 miles on it. I do all the maintenance on time and have had little issues with it over the years (compared to my wife’s disaster of a Toyota Sienna 2015). I still enjoy driving it. I’m wondering though if I’m sitting on a ticking time bomb for repairs. Last summer I had to replace the a/c compressor and one of the mufflers which was costly. I’m guessing the other muffler will need replacing soon. Unsure about the front shocks (no leaks) and your favorite cvt transmission (fluid changed every 30k). Should I consider cashing out the car in trade now while the used car market is hot and getting something new? I figure if I can get 6-7k for it that would cover about a years worth of payments as I’m looking to downsize to something under $30k anyway. I don’t need anything with a ton of power as I picked up a 2019 Mustang GT last year for $33k with only 800 miles on it. Mustang isn’t my daily driver.
I wouldn't trade it in but sell it outright and put the dealer's profit in your pocket for another purchase.
If you don't want to sell it yourself then see what places like Carvana, Vroom, Carmax, etc. offer you and take the highest offer and as Doc said use that money towards your next purchase.
Carmax says 6700 online without looking at it.
I agree with the others, sell it while the market is high.
It would be a good idea.
