Caliper pistons hard to push in

I have a 1997 Camry 4 cylinder 180k. I have owned the car since 2013.  Recently I  noticed a steering pull  develop. The front end and rear end are tight. The tires are inflated. I checked the front calipers. 1 slider pin was frozen. I removed it and greased it (steering pull is still there). I compressed both caliper pistons. They both went in but were extremely difficult to push in using this tool.(I used to work in a dealership). I'm thinking maybe the calipers are going bad. Any thoughts

Lubricate the sides of the pistons with a Little brake fluid before pushing them in.

Did you make sure to vent the reservoir first? Having the cap on forces the fluid to compress the air in the reservoir and makes it hard to press the pistons in. I did it doing my first brake job years ago. Luckily no seals blew.

the car is a quarter of a century old. The brake lines are likely collapsed, which could explain your pulling.

Opening up the bleeders can make it easier to push the pistons in.
