[Solved] Nissan Sentra CVT transmission fluid

Topic starter

2011 Nissan Sentra 145k miles. Mechanic changed CVT fluid at 100k. I want to try and change CVT fluid and filter myself. Under hood, sticker says use “Nissan NS-2 CVT fluid”. I found some CVT fluid made by Valvoline that says it is ok for many makes, including Nissan. Is it ok to use this Valvoline CVT fluid or should I stick to Nissan CVT fluid from the dealer? Thanks, Mark

Stick to the Nissan fluid. The Nissan CVTs are already weak. You don’t want to take any chances with a non compatible fluid and ruin your CVT transmission.

Idemitsu Type N (NS-2) is a more compatible fluid. Used it with good results on my 2007 Sentra.

5 quarts for $43.22 on Amazon with free shipping.

Valvoline and Castrol CVT will certainly work, but are not an exact copy of NS-2.

Either way, we have transmissions that naturally fail early.  Fresh fluid is the only suggestion to maybe extend their lifespans.

Indeed! In fact Nissan branded engine oil & transmission fluid is manufactured by Idemitsu where I am.

I can only find it on Amazon. No local stores carry it.
