My 2012 Nissan versa sedan 1.6 s manual with 98k miles has had a check engine light come on recently and I'm trying to figure out what to do.
It drives fine no knocking, lack of acceleration or surginf, odd idling. I took it to a mechanic on Almeda road in Houston and they said I needed to have the maf sensor and throttle body replaced which was pretty expensive and I thought seemed unnecessary as they only had the car for like ten 15 minutes before giving me the quote
I took it to o Reilly's and bought some maf cleaner cleaned the maf sensor well and then had them read the code for me as the mechanic i saw before wouldnt tell me the code, they then erased the code off the computer so no light anymore but I don't know if the maf sensor cleaning i performed worked

Should I wait to see if the light comes back on, then get a replacement sensor if it does?
I recently went to scrap yard and saw a bunch of wrecked versa that I can probably get one out of.
Just asking some advice
Trouble shooting I have done:
- I have visually inspected the wiring of the sensors.
- Have checked to make sure there are no holes in the intake or vaccum lines.
- I removed the sensors and cleaned it with MAF sensor cleaner.
- The code was read by a tech at o Reilly's. The code was then erased and hasn't come back yet and I've driven it about 20 miles with the cleaned sensor.
I've edited your question a bit to give you the best chance at getting helpful answers.
Thank you, my first time posting about a mechanical issue.
Should I wait to see if the light comes back on
that's what I would do
then get a replacement sensor if it does?
not before thoroughly testing for vacuum leaks, and reading the MAF live data with a diagnostic scanner

If it really does need replacing, I would only buy new OEM.

See our FAQ for mechanic referrals. (there are several in Texas)
