Been working on this issue for over a week now. Got the famous No Bus issue, but the vehicle will start and run. Icons in the cluster will illuminate, but the gauges don't work. Sometimes when the issue appeared while driving you could tap the cluster and it would go back to normal.

  • Removed the cluster and cleaned contacts and connectors and problem continued.
  • One guy solved it by unplugging the airbag module. Tried it, but didn't work.
  • Original factory connectors, no cutting and splice of new connectors has been done.
  • Checked fuses
  • Connector C2, pin 2 violet with brown tracer is B+, pin 1 white with black tracer is B-. Pin 9 black with light green trace is ground. Less than 1VDC at pin 2

I'm suspecting a bad wire taking into account of the intermittent issue. Is there anything else I should check before cutting into the wires? I'm ruling out the PCM atm because the vehicle starts. Checked and cleaned the connectors and terminals at the PCM as well.

Forgot to mention I did the cluster check by holding the trip and cycling the key and all the gauges checked out.

Do not rule out the PCM that's a very common thing on those clunkers. But of course any wiring short or any single sensor on the car that feeds the computer could be the culprit good luck hunting that one down
