Hello. I just recently purchased a 2000 VW Jetta TDI manual with 221,000 miles. I noticed that when I don't have the clutch engaged it sounds loud, and when I press the clutch in the sound becomes quieter. Because this is my first diesel car, I am worried that this has something to do with the DMF. What can you enlighten me with? Thank you.

Normally that's either a worn throw out bearing or a problem in the transmission in the main shaft bearings.
