I'm gonna buy a jetta. I was gonna get one with either the 2.0T or a 2.0 TDI, I am mainly looking at the 2.0T but I'm not sure how long people have gotten with these engines so I'm just curious if anyone has a jetta with any of these engines and how many kilometers they have on them. I have the money to baby these cars in terms of maintenance. I know for the newer tdi's that a delete for the emissions might as well be compulsory but do they have any other major weakpoints in them?
The 2.0T gas engine is one of the worst engine ever made that plagued with many problems. The diesels are well made but still I would run away from any VW products. You have to look the whole image of the car not just the engine itself. They're endless money pits as they age.
do they have any other major weakpoints in them?
Yes. It's made by VW.

While I don't recommend VW's, if you are going to get one, at least get one with an Aisin transmission. Aisin is used in many Toyota and Lexus models.
I can't speak to the diesel, but the 2.0T gas engine has a history of problems. Some of those, such as timing chain tensioners going bad, can and do lead to catastrophic engine failure. Oil leaks, water pump leaks, and PCV failures are also not uncommon.
Myself, I would pass on a used VW, but you do you.
