I have a 1999 ford ranger with 198k miles the OD off light flashes when the transmission heats up I get a hard shift from 1 to 2 gear other then that it's fine I shut it off then it goes away for about 5 min then it starts again been driven like that for a few years now how much longer do i have before the trans goes away ?

why didn't you run a diagnostic to find out why it's flashing? You might have been able to save your transmission.

Your transmission is flat worn out. I have 1999 Ford Ranger 3.0, and the O/D OFF light flashes on and off when there's a problem with the transmission. You either have a 4R44E, or a 5R44E automatic transmission (you didn't specify what engine you have, or I'd give more information). The fact it slams into 1st and 2nd gear means that tranny is too far gone. Check the transmission fluid. It's probably burned. That's about the only thing you can do. You need a professional transmission guy, not a chain store to run a proper diagnosis.
