Oil change frequency?

Is it good enough, in my case, to do an oil change (oil&filter) only every 24 months?

Drive only about 1,000mls per year. After a year, oil still looks nicely yellow, feels and smells okay. No oil burner. No oil dilution (no gas smell in oil).

once per year or 5k miles, whichever comes first.

The general rule of thumb is every 5K or once a year like Mountain Man suggested. And for most folks, that works out pretty well. Some folks may need to do it more often because of their driving habits.

With that said, it is possible to extend oil changes, but not necessarily advisable. You could do an oil analysis of one year old or two year old oil, and they can tell you if it has more life left in, or if it is past its usefulness. Just explain your situation in the notes. And they will give you suggestions based on the data the get from the oil analysis.

It's cheaper to just change the oil once a year rather than messing around taking samples, mailing them off, and waiting for them to get back to you. Oil is cheap.

Yep. It cost about $50 bucks or more for an oil sample. More if you do additional tests.

Thanks for all your answers. I see your point. So I will simply do it every 12 months, even though I don’t drive much. Makes perfect sense. Thanks again, and have a nice day.
