Is an OEM oil filter better than a different brand? Are there any aftermarket oil filter brands to avoid?
1993 Toyota Camry LE 3.0 liter auto trans 240,000 miles Runs very well
I'm not married to OEM oil filters. in fact they are sometimes terrible. (can't comment on Denso, though)
I think Wix, NAPA, Purolator, Fram xtraguard etc. are good filters.
They didn't have an AC Delco oil filter at that time. I've not had any problems using OEM filters
AC Delco in particular I've seen absolutely crap the bed in a filtration performance showdown against all the other major brands.
I got wind of that after my last oil change in that Pontiac. I'll probably stick with K&N from now on in that particular car.
I've never had problems using OEM oil filters, but the vast majority of my cars have been Ford. I have 2 Fords and a '79 Pontiac. I've used nothing but OEM Motorcraft filters on two Fords. I get my oil and filter at Wal-Mart. That saves $10 for a 5-quart just vs any auto parts store. I can also get Motorcraft oil filters for $8.
Right now, there's a K&N oil filter on the Pontiac. They didn't have an AC Delco oil filter at that time. I've not had any problems using OEM filters, but I definitely can't say I've tried them all.
