I think it’s funny that the car community can buy GM parts, like SBC, BBC, LS, even LT and assemble them into dependable horsepower producing monsters. Just goes to show that the upper GM products have good designs. They just can’t build em worth a damn on the assembly line. Even Ford’s Coyotes are better built in the aftermarket/private community. Neither company can design a 4 or 6 cylinder worth crap though. When you have company’s casting their own engine blocks and heads of your designs and they far outclass yours that’s sad.

The subject of putting loud, obnoxious, huge exhaust pipes on small Japanese cars has come up yet again recently. It reminded me of the mindset portrayed by "Waste-O", a guy who used to post on the Usenet net.auto newsgroup back in the 1980s. I saved a few of those, here's a sample...

on the floor and stomps on them a little bit and like then he reaches
in his desk and pulls out this fifth of jack daniels and chugs down
about half of it and that made him feel better so we got to talking and
he showed me how to put my own name on the article and everything and
he says I can use his terminal any time I want. So we split the last of
the whiskey and he went staggering off toward the elevator so now I can
tell you all about my blower.It cost a whole lot but I got some of the money from my mom she thinks I
used it to pay for the insurance and thats a laugh because I haven't had
any insurance on the car for two years. So last Friday I picked up Jimmy
and Phil sneaked out of the house he's grounded again but we met him at
the Burger King and we started driving around looking for vettes to run
but nobody wanted to run us so we decided to get a bunch of beer and
go see Rambo at the drive-in it's this real crummy place west of town.
So like we parked way in back so we could drink and smoke and stuff
and we're about halfway through the movie when Phils got to go to the
bathroom and he's like real drunk and he can barely stand up so Jimmy has
to go to the refreshment stand with him and its like half a mile away.
So like 15 minutes later they come back and get back in the car and
Jimmys torching up another jay and all of a sudden this stinking rent a
cop shines this big long flashlight in Jimmys face and he bangs on the
window like he's [expletive deleted] Clint Eastwood and starts yelling All Right
You Punks Out Of The Car.Like this guy must have followed Jimmy and Phil back to the car cause Phil
can barely walk. So Jimmy rolls the window down and sprays a mouthful of
beer all over the rent a cop so he looks like he peed his pants and grabs
the flashlight and in the meantime I start up the engine and cram her in
gear. So like we took off except the speaker thing is still hanging off
the roll bar and the cord knocks over the rent a cop and pulls over the
post and that made the other speaker thing bust this guys window before
the cord broke. I looked back and the rent a cops lying on the ground
yelling into this walkie-talkie thing and when we get to the exit theres
this rent a cop car blocking the way so I do a 180 and start driving up
and down the aisles and Jimmy starts pitching empties out the window at
all the cars that got Baby On Board signs so people start getting out
of their cars and trying to flag down the rent a cop car thats after us
and that slows him down but we got to the entrance figuring we could get
out that way and theres this other car they drove up there too so we
head back in and Jimmy runs out of beer bottles so he chucks the rent
a cops flashlight at this guys van and it busted out his back window
serves him right for taking a stinking van to the drive-in anyway.So we're driving up and down the aisles and the rent a cops are still
chasing us so we're coming up on the refreshment stand and Jimmy starts
swinging the speaker thing round and round outside the window and lets it
go and it flies into this little window where the lights coming out and I
looked up at the screen and Rambo was blowing the [expletive deleted] out of something
and all of a sudden the screen goes dark and theres a bunch of sparks
shooting out of the little window where the light ain't coming out of
no more. So people start honking their horns and flashing their lights
and yelling stuff out the windows and a bunch of people are starting
to leave so we lose the rent a cops but we still can't get out cause
theres a big line of cars and the rent a cops are stopping them all.
We looked back and the refreshment stands on fire and the rent a cops
are trying to put it out and one of them yells Theres The Little [expletive deleted]
and comes tearing out after us on foot so we just start heading for the
wall its made out of wood and its all rotten and everything and we're
about 60 feet back and I hit the blower and we went right through the
wall and out on to the road and the rent a cops are trying to come after
us but a whole bunch of people are trying to get out the hole we made
and theres a big pile up and we got away.So the next day we went past the drive-in and the big hole in the fence
is still there and the refreshment stand is burned to the ground and
the sign says Closed For Remodeling so anyway guys this blower is real
fantastic and you ought to all get one but can somebody tell me how the
movie came out?--

Although not about cars, here's the intro to a 1990 British TV comedy involving WW2 Germans, but it was possibly a bit too much over the top - 8 episodes were filmed but the series was pulled after the pilot episode aired.

Of course I expected to hear "Gremlin" and was not disappointed. However the Gremlin was really not a bad car IF the original buyer selected the right options. (In base form it was a pretty cheap and nasty ride.) At least compared to its domestic competition (Pinto and Vega) the Gremlin lacked features such as exploding gas tanks and quickly self-destructing engines. To be fair, the boys did also list those turkeys.
