Oil consumption issue, advice on the engine oil additive to use

Hello,

‘15 Scion xB around 100k miles, burning lots of oil due to manufacturing issue, burns approx. 2+ quarts every three weeks.
Bought this liqui-moly that you add to the engine oil, heard good things about this additive. Some of these additives you need to drain the oil and refill with new one, but this specific one with the link listed below doesn’t say you have to flush it and that’s what I wanted since the oil has been recently changed. Since vehicle mostly has not been driven and will be rarely used for short driving distances ones in a while is it safe to just pour the whole bottle it into the engine oil without draining the oil later since it will burn off at some point. I know this isn’t going to fix the issue but at least a good start to prolong the engine’s life. Any suggestions and or opinions will greatly appreciate.

The link shows motor oils, not a specific additive.

No, "overfilled blows seals", don't do it.

Worn metal isn't going to be replaced by any liquid product.

You can check the PVC valve to make sure it's operating correctly. Also could try ATS 505 CRO Oil System Treatment  Scotty's recent video shows how to use it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N88lc0ZJYFc

It's snake oil. The only thing it will do is make your wallet lighter.

Don't waste your money on those kind of products. Nothing you pour into the oil is going to help a worn or damaged engine or fix defective parts.

burning lots of oil due to manufacturing issue

I'll take a wild guess that it's the 1.5L 1NZ-FE engine.

These burn oil due to stuck piston rings. There are no additives that will fix that.  (especially not one like liquimoly whos claim to fame is reduced friction).  An oil system cleaning treatment like the one Hixster mentions , might help a little bit by freeing up those piston rings.

After 100k , this engine also suffers from worn valve seals. Replacing those may help a bit too, but if you're paying a mechanic to do it, then the cost of the service is more than many, MANY quarts of oil.

The engine is also know to leak at the rear crankshaft oil seal and chain cover. Again, probably not worth pulling the engine out. Though eventually the leaks can cause the crankshaft position sensor to fill with oil and fail.

good start to prolong the engine’s life.

Other things to look forward to late in this engine's life: rattle from timing chain stretch, and noise from the VVT actuator.

Again, not much you can do about it.

My suggestion is don't waste your money on expensive products. Keep the oil topped up with the manufacturer specification, and change it often.  It will keep going with these problems for a long time before it gives up. Just drive it like a grandpa until you hit a big ticket break down and sell it.
