Hello,
I have a 2013 Kia Rio with 143k miles. This is a recent problem that seemed to pop up randomly. The oil pressure light comes on for 1 second then turns off again, mostly at random times. It doesn't turn on that often either, probably once every 30 miles or so then it turns off again after 1 second. I noticed that sometimes it turns on when I go over bumps, but other times it lights up on the highway with no bumps. Any ideas? The engine light isn't illuminated either, and I only have a basic scan tool so I can't see anything past engine codes. Thanks in advance!
I’m more concerned about the oil pump. It seems that the oil pump is going out and it is a serious issue for your engine.
I agree, I shouldn't take any risks. I'm planning on taking it to my shop to see what they can find out
As long as the oil level is correct we won't assume that low oil is a factor here. Probably you have a defective connection from the oil pressure sending unit to the connector. I would yank it off and put it back on to see if its as simeple as a loose connection. Yank it off and run the engine...oil lite should come on....as intended..... Put the connector back and on go for a test drive to see if you made any changes to the original situation. What would be interesting is to drive with the connector off...let see if the lite goes OFF. If it does its in the wiring for sure not the sender. If the lite stays on and never goes off...suspect the oil sender is defective.
I will try that, thanks
