[Solved] Should I switch Camaro to 0W20 oil

Greetings from Jacksonville FL!

I have a 2017 Camaro V6 RS with the LGX engine that is direct injected. I bought brand new.

The car is 3 yrs old and has 30,000 miles now. I have been using Mobil 1 fs 5W-30 oil and a Mobil 1 oil filter. Should I switch to the 0W-20 FS Mobil 1 oil? Or should I stick with 5W-30 (recommended in the manual).

I want to get the most life out of the car. I baby the car barely rev it over 3000 RPM unless a rare occasion to enjoy the V6 and drive it 90% highway. Less than 10,000 miles a year. Most miles are from road trips.

What do y’all recommend?

@caddison
New cars are designed to use a specific oil viscosity. And are designed to use standard or synthetic oils. I would stay with what the manufacturer has recommended. Its designed to perform best and get the best gas mileage with the recommended oil.

stick to the manual. They know what your car needs.

And also don't be afraid to "squeeze" that baby once in a while above 5grand RPM's. Engines need to be stretched out once in a while to free breath and clean out carbon deposits.

I shall do so!

If you aren't having any issues, just keep doing what you're doing. Don't get suckered into any hype that makes it seem like you need to switch. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You can switch your recommended 5W-30 to 0W-30, … but not to 0W-20! In fact, rumours are abound that 5W-20 and 5W-30 will most likely will be superseded soon by 0W-20 and 0W-30 globally.

Now, use of 0W-30 will improve a cold temperatures starting, … say, if temperature in your area drops below freezing, your car will benefit. If not, … sticking to what’s in the owner's manual is good, … and remember, Italian tune up will help your car, too!
