Everyone talks about the reliability of Toyota. Why do people say they make good engines when between the mid90s-early2000s they had oil sludge issues in the 4 cylinders and V6 engines of their popular cars? I have even seen some of their newer 4-cylinder and V6 having problems; not just oil sludge but other problems.
Yes, I wonder that too!
I document and upload common issues I see with them on this forum, and I still don't get why people still consider them any good.
Never knew anyone to have that problem.
i got a new engine for the '97 camry after 90k miles, no charge, thanks Toyota!
(and my brother in law who worked in the shop)
The Oil sludge is found on the 2.2 4-cylinder and the 3.0 V6 in these Toyota vehicles:
Toyota:
Avalon; 1997-2005
Camry; 1997-2005 (both 2.2 four-cylinder and V6)
Celica; 1997-2005
Highlander; 2001-2005
Solara; 1997-2005 (both 2.2 four-cylinder and V6)
Sienna; 1997-2005
Lexus:
ES300; 1997-2005
RX300; 1999-2005
has been my experience that toyota stands behind their engines, while others will not, they just say thats normal lol
