I just bought this car, but i noticed a linear stain under the hood (bonnet). I wiped and examined a part it seem to be a bit oily/greasy. What could it have been? anything to worry about?

It most likely is from a past event. Depending on what is under that part of the hood, something probably boiled over.
looks like something spilled on the serpentine belt and got slung all over the hood underside. Maybe PS fluid.
FWIW, "old" oil leaks are encrusted with dust and dirt, with fresh or current leaks, the oil washes off the dirt.
yeah its definitely encrusted with dust and dirt, must be old, because there is no sign of a leak under the hood on any of the parts. What part could it have been?

Does this vehicle have a fan clutch? When they go south, they throw out oil under the hood.
