2001 honda civic ex, 1.7L, 206k miles. E brake light on after changing both rear brake lines, drums, wheel cylinders, shoes. red light stays on while driving. pulled sensor in MC and put it back but the light is still on. kept brake fluid topped off. disconnected battery cable for an hour, no diff.
Articles say it might be a sensor or whatever under the ebrake handle but i have not checked that yet. car seems to have good brakes and fluid does not appear to be leaking.
What else can I check? Any suggestions? Thank you..
I would check that little switch under the E-brake handle. I have dealt with this before. The wire grounds when the E-brake is pulled or pushed depending on the car. This is not a complex circuit.
Take the wire off the switch under the handle and see if the light goes out. If it does, you either have a defective switch or it is mis-adjusted.
There are no other problems with your brakes if the light goes out after disconnecting that wire. It is simply a reminder light on the control handle or peddle.
@autoelectrical
I will try that, thank you.
How did you remove the e brake ?
Someone car I am not sure about yours you to have scan tool to disengage the e brake and then other tool that twist the rotor on the brake caliper.
I would find the workshop manual for your car.
Or the after a break job you may need a scan tool to reset it.
@klob
Thank you but I need answers from someone that is sure about what they are telling me. Brakes are nothing to mess with.
Then I would suggest you bring it to a mechanic and have them check it out.
