Hi Scotty
I'm desperate. 2010 Ford Fusion SEL 6cyl flex 31000 mi. Tail lights don't work...via a NYS Trooper. Brake lights, signal lights work.Told the Smart Junction Box has no outgoing power.Basically cant drive the car at night. The part 9E5Z-15604-F Smart Junction Box is unavailable anywhere. I have literally called a dozen places nationwide.I'm spooked buying junk yard electrical parts. When I spoke to the dealer regarding any work-arounds out of concern for the safety issues I was told "We are not a mom and pop shop, we don't do jury rig work" I'm thinking safety first and my state inspection due in November second.
I've had to replace the bcm and ignition switch, now this. They all seem related. First question...are there any work-arounds to get the tail lights working? Is the part repairable or at least diagnose to see what the issue is as everything else works fine.
I would appreciate any help or direction you could offer. I'm recently retired and would bring the car to TN or RI if that's possible.I have lots of free time. Thanks for your help!
From your user name, I suspect you're in western NY. Don't know how far you're from Avoca, NY, but if it's feasible, I'd try to make an appointment with Eric O at South Main Auto. He knows how to "old-school" troubleshoot and read wiring diagrams and from his y-tube vidoes seems to be able to figure out lots of strange electrical issues.
yup. same with Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics.
Your best bet is probably a low mileage undamaged junkyard module.
Junkyards will usually offer you some sort of warranty for a few bucks more than the cost of the part.
An alternative would be to fix the module itself. Not always, but often times, it is a loose solder connections. Granted you kinda need to know what you are doing if you try to actually fix the module.
Tail lights?
Run a fused line direct from the battery to a switch in the dash then from the switch directly to the harness wires for those lights.
Make sure to clearly mark it RUNNING LIGHTS for inspection reasons & tell the inspector about the switch. You can get backlit labeled switches as such on amazon.
I had the same issue with my 99 F150 & it was the bcm after rain came in from rot. Since the local cops don't pay attention to anything but major felonies/no state vehicle inspections, I was fine inside city limits and never bothered fixing it.
Part not available ANYWHERE
generally, if you can't get a part - go to a junkyard and get it for cheap.
He said he doesn't want to he's "spooked about junkyard electronics", but it may be his only viable option at this point since his state inspection is coming up quickly.
Here's an example of the switch I mentioned in my last reply, ALOT cheaper than replacing parts....
