[Solved] Should I use a throttle controller

Hello Scotty and all,

I have a quick question about a product I came across called "Pedal Commander" and I was wondering what you thought of this product and/or products like it.  They state the product will "Eliminate throttle lag from your gas pedal" and "Pedal Commander allows you to have more control over your vehicle. It makes your gas pedal response more sensitive for a sportier feel."

Would you mind educating me as to what this product is "actually" doing and is it a safe product to use which might improve the drivability of a vehicle?

Thank you for your time!

Sincerely,
Nathan Abbott

Mainly they're a bunch of nonsense that doesn't do all that much just another electronic gimmick

You likely need to have the factory tune reloaded. Those pedal commanders can mess with your transmission shift points if installed incorrectly and cause the computer to be confused on when to shift.

You don’t know how happy I am to hear that ..it makes a lot of sense how can I get that done?

You can have the dealer flash it for you. Or if you have a good speed shop close by, they can do it as well.

I just found out that the reason why my pedal commander did not work was because of a misfire cylinder or ignition coil I had that I did not know about now I need to fix that I believe that Is the problem no check engine light in the hesitating at a stoplight sluggish was because of a bad ignition coil may be a tuneup as well but I am still going to tune reload my vehicle what do you recommend for factory to reload

If you had a bad coil, I would replace it and see how the car feels. You might be ok. If not, you'll need the TCM (transmission control module) reprogrammed.

You already have one.

It's called, Your Brain

First of all, realize that this product works only on newer cars/truck with electronic throttle body. It changes the signal (that is sent from your pedal sensors to the throttle body) according to the setting you choose on the equipment.

Lesson learned, don't use those "pedal commanders". All it does is make the car "feel" faster by just making the throttle pedal more sensitive, but sometimes the ECU doesn't like it when the throttle position is messed with because it messes up other parameters.

I have a 2013 Jeep jk. What do you think about the throttle controllers (ex. PEDDLE COMMAND)?

I agree with @Mod_Man, I would not mess with it, because you basically mess with the car computer signals and I personally do not like that, but it is just me. I think this product is beneficial for people who loves to do some burnout without changing the ECU settings professionally.

A lot of guys are putting them on their 4Runners to improve their sluggish throttle response. As Mod-Man said, some like them and some don't like them and remove them after they went to the trouble to install them. I have no interest in putting one on my 4Runner but if you have the money, inclination and time, why not try it?

What are your thoughts about Pedal Commander? Would you recommend it?

Thinking about using it on a 2018 Camry to get rid of the car's throttle slow response.

Thanks

This was already asked a few time. The answer is easily available via the search. Please use that before creating a new post. Thanks.

Sounds like snake oil. I would be very hesitant to plug a gadget like that into a modern car's complex and sensitive electrical system, who knows what it's going to do.
