I’d like to hear from folks that use CarShield. Is it worth it? Do they do what they advertise?

Pattern of Complaint:

Better Business Bureau is advising consumers to use caution when considering doing business with CarShield, an Auto Service Contract company.  BBB has received a pattern of consumer complaints alleging misleading sales and advertising practices, failure to cover repairs, difficulty cancelling a policy and obtaining a refund, delays in taking and processing customer claims, sent harassing mail solicitations, and poor customer service.

From what I have heard from those that bought into it, no it is not worth it.

These supplemental insurance programs seem to be nothing more than self inflicted extortion in my opinion.  If you really think they are going to save you thousands when your trans goes out, fine.  Read the fine print before putting your money down.  Sometimes, the only shops that will accepts this policy are in another state.  Other times, the shops that accept it are so bad you wouldn't take your lawn mower to them.  Caveat Emptor!

Nope, use that money towards actual service.

I’ve heard more horror stories than good stories from people’s experiences with Carshield.  Some items that were supposed to be covered they ended up denying.  If you choose the right car (and we here on the Scotty Kilmer Forum can help with that) it’s definitely money wasted.  The money saved use towards future repairs, which should hopefully be few and far between if you pick the right car.

I dunno.  For my money, I would create a separate account at the bank and transfer money there monthly.  How much would depend on the age, mileage, and model of your vehicle.  The more suspect a vehicle gets, the more I would contribute.  Simply put, if you only put $100 a month in the account, you could absorb a whopping $1,200.00 repair each year, or a catastrophic $2,400+ repair every couple+ of years.  If the car doesn't break down, keep contributing. Eventually you might have enough for new car down payment or enough to buy a used car cash!

Run away fast, these companies are really good at getting out of paying claims.
