Pistons are usually cast or forged from aluminium alloys

I have a piston from a 10 year old 3.6L Pentastar V6 that I found next to the disassembled motor in the junkyard. I had it turned into a decoration at work by plating the different parts with different metals and processes. The end cap, wrist pin and connecting rod are made of cast steel, but the piston head is cast aluminum. The rings are also steel. Forged steel is generally found in performance cars like the GT350 because it's stronger than cast parts.

Typically an aluminum alloy.
