Plastic magnetic car start device

Hi Scotty, my car is equipped with this device it is removable it is some sort of security anti theft device when it is removed the car wont start but when it is placed the car will start, i wanted to know what is it called and how it works exactly there seems to be magnets inside of it  and when i do put it in it makes like a clicking sound around the glove compartment area

That anti-theft device was likely installed as an aftermarket addition. There are many different types, you may have to provide a picture if you want some more information. A common mechanism is their use of reed switches that rely on a magnet closing a circuit between something like a starter signal relay or the like. They are pretty easy to jerry rig yourself. Car thieves could probably crack those too pretty easily but won't spend the extra few minutes trying for fear of being caught.
