I have a 2016 Kia Sportage with 41,000 miles, automatic, runs great. It's even paid off. Unfortunately, it is one those Kias that could be done in by the Kia Challenge, since it has no factory immobilizer. It does have a factory alarm, if that's anything. Fortunately, it hasn't been challenged yet, and since it's paid off, I don't want to trade it in. Don't want another car payment. But, of course, I need to improve security on it ASAP, or my insurance premium is gonna blow up. And since Scotty don't like aftermarket security systems, I will avoid that route if there is something useful or better to install. What would you (ya'll) recommend? For example, I saw this (Ravelco Anti Theft Device) which disables the starter and a few other circuits as well, and it is definitely not cheap ($600-$800). Car dealers and cops seem to like it. But if Scotty is Ok with it or knows of something similar and/or better, I don't mind the expense to avoid that car payment. What do ya'll think?
If your primary concern is insurance cost the first thing to do is find out what device(s) your insurance company might accept, if any, in lieu of a factory immobilizer.
