OK, here goes. I bought a cheap 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT mainly for the body, no rust. I knew the engine sounded bad when I bought it, that's why it was so cheap. It didn't last during the drive home, it ended up with three bent push rods so I replaced the engine with a Jasper Engine. Now I'm starting to replace the whole drive line and ran into a intermittent problem with the transmission. If I take this vehicle out for one destination sometimes at a stop light when I take off it hesitates and then jumps so much the front end almost comes off the ground. This has happened six times. Now during my last drive I stopped at four different places and on the way home it didn't miss shift once and it shifted through all the gears like a brand new transmission. Then I had a problem with filling the gas tank and had the canister replaced. And again I had a problem filling the tank. The next time I filled up the tank filled like it should. I'm beginning to think that all of these problems are electrical and the ECM is not sending out the correct information. Could this possibly be. Do you think rebuilding the valve body in the trans would help too? Or with this thing running right after several stops still indicate an ECM problem? My friend gave me hell for putting in another Cadillac Engine and told me I should put in an older big block and get rid of the ECM completely. What do you think?
Try getting the vehicle scanned and try to see if everything is connected correctly.
It's been scanned and no codes turn up.
When the mechanic drove my truck he said it acts like the ECM is learning to shift all over again. That's why I'm wondering if all my problems are inside that ECM including maybe shutting off the solenoid to the evap system which results shutting off the gas pump when filling the tank.
I would say give it some time because if it is learning to shift all over again it will take some time but if it hasn't stopped acting up I would say try getting the ecm replaced or reset
Did you go thru the RELEARN program so that the ECM learns the New engines noise characteristics ?
Yes, both the PCM and the ECU were reset after the new Engine was put in.
Now for my next question. Is there a way to plug in some kind of diagnostic into the OBD2 so that I can find out what's going on with this shifting problem and occasionally problems with filling the gas tank when there are no codes thrown while I'm driving the vehicle. If these computers are so smart I would think it would tell what's wrong with the truck. Or is my friend right about changing the whole drive line and getting rid of everything electronic on this truck and make it a vehicle that I can trust. I find it interesting that I have 196,000 miles on a 2002 Chevy Suburban and never had a problem with it all this time and then buying this electronic genius truck with all of this going on all because of GM's poor electronics. It seems the newer the vehicles the less reliable they are.
