Hello!
Just picked up an 09 Matrix with 147k on it. I'm going to change the transmission fluid.
But my question is, would saving the old fluid, and putting it back in, help any issues that may occur from the fluid change?

Possibly. If the fluid is currently not burnt or gritty it should be safe to change but it's not a bad idea to keep the old stuff just in case. Bear in mind that when you do a drain and fill that's just partial fluid change. A lot stays in the torque converter.
