I know you've talked about this before, but what used cars are worth taking a small risk on for daily drivers. I was interested in a used Toyota 2000 4Runner with 215K miles on it. $11.500
Anyway, they really look sharp, but should I just not be a cheapskate and buy a $24,000 SUV. Better gas mileage, less problematic? asking- rich (not Rich)
$11,500 for a 23-year-old Toyota with 215k miles?! Pass that up right away, if you can't talk him down. That car is 23 years old, almost 24. All the rubber hoses are probably starting to dry rot if they're the original hoses. Unless you would be buying it from the first owner and literally have every piece of paperwork for that truck, pass it up. There probably have been multiple owners.
Thank You --I did :^)
I would recommend getting a pre-purchase inspection before "taking a risk" on any used vehicle. Especially when you get into very old vehicles like the one you're considering. A lot can happen in 23 years.
As for the asking price on that 4Runner - it seems quite high to me. I did some checking on Edmunds and other car websites, and most 4Runners in that general age and mileage category are going for significantly less than $11.5k. Even one owner examples. YMMV.
