Hello Scotty, first thank you for the great video contet, great advice and help, i used your videos to give my car a great treatment.
My car is 2000. Opel Vectra B with 270 000 km, 2.0 diesel with turbo, and recently my fuel pump broke and road assistance wanted to try to start it with strater spray, and sprayed it over the air intake and MAF sensor, making it incredibly greasy, and after i got my pump fixed, its showing an error for the MAF sensor.
I cant get any refund because i didnt get any paper, and i will try to clean it with the MAF sensor cleaner when i get it (i ordered it online) as you said in your videos, but is there anything else i could try, or can i expect it to be destroyed, and to nevin collecting money for a second hand MAF sensor (because i cant find a new one). Thank you for your advices, you are the best
Only approved MAF spray. The issue is the purity of cleaner. Carb cleaner would clean it BUT it isn't as pure and thus could (will) leave some contaminates on the maf heater wire causing inaccurate reading and premature failure.
I don't know about that car, but I'd really try to find an oem grade new one. Can't tell you the number of times I've seen people use aftermarket and they don't meet spec and cause same issue and thus leaving person thinking it isn't maf and leaving car broken and more money thrown at it. Only took me a couiple times back in the 90's to realize this so I never recommend used/aftermarket (unless I know an exception for the specific job at hand).
With that said, some models ain't picky and aftermarket is ok(ish). Don't know about your car. Find a forum for your car to get more knowledge on it. GL
Hy!
I should try with the cleaner first. If that wouldn't work, I'd change the sensor.
If a diesel runs out of fuel, it is not as easy to start as gasoline. I remember when a coworker ran out of diesel on Renault Master about 15 years ago. After refueling he had to pump the fuel manually into the engine to start it. The truck had integrated some kind of vacuum pump in the system.
Good luck!
If there is a junk yard near you, it might be a good place to find a used MAF sensor from your make and model.
