Hi, i own RAV4-2006-AUTOMATIC-87000KM.
Problem/Issue: When the cars turns on in the Morning and when i engage the gear to Drive D the gear doesn't engage on time (takes about 1.5mins!!) then it engages to Drive, but when i engage the gear to Reverse R it engages very quickly (which is normal).
After driving it for few mins and park it for couple of hours and turn it on again the Drive gear engages quickly (as normal)
Why is this behavior happening? It has never happened to me before. Do you have any ideas what might be wrong?

Unfortunately you have one of the Year RAV4 that had bad automatic transmission and odds are your transmission is going out. Have a pro like me personally tested with this high level scan tool and pray there's a short it out solenoid and not the transmission going out but do realize a lot of those had to have transmission control module replaced
