I have a 1984 Chevy k10 with a 1993 350 and I'm going to block off the EGR, I know it's bad but. Not sure what else to check next if blocking the EGR doesn't fix it? Getting 6.6 Miles a gallon and it's our only means of transportation for the moment. Map sensor next? Pcv ? Injectors for the throttle body? I've got 16&17 mpg before but it always drops to 10 mpg or 8 mpg and at worst so far is 66 mpg. Any help would be appreciated! Disconnected the EGR vacuum hose and it run great but still intermittent driving me crazy lol
Scotty, sorry I forgot to give you all the details. 93 Chevy k1500 350 TBI with approximately 55,000have everything hooked up but the EGR valve is blocked off ( Wyoming doesn't do emissions testing) 700r4 trans, rebuilt about 6000 Miles ago. I have the cat and oxygen sensor, map sensor, temp sensor. But fuel mileage dropping from 16 to 17 mpg to 8 average now hit as low as 6.6 mpg. Hopefully all the info now, what determines the fuel injection the most? Oxygen sensor, map sensor or still think it's bad injectors?

Throw everything at it..

Are the filters clean? Cold tyre pressures?
Good chance it will make it worse.

Of course it did. EGR helps reduce consumption.
Hey Scotty, have a 1984 Chevy k10 axles converted to 3/4 ton, 1993 5.7 liter I like to still call 350 TBI. 700R4 trans. I drive pretty conservatively, goes through 20" + snow no problem lol. I've got 17 mpg once in a while after the truck sits for a few weeks but drive it everyday and then some days lucky to get 6-8 mpg! 17 mpg on hwy of course, gas smell in the air filter and killing me on gas mileage, plugged EGR off and get up to 10-12 mpg but still running rich. Engine has about 58,000 Miles on it. The guy that converted this engine in it just piled the computer under the hood on the fender, I haven't dug the wiring out yet, not sure I have a port to diagnose with. Oxygen sensor or map sensor, temp sensor cause this? EGR is being held in place plugged off and it's unplugged. What's your best guess for this beast mess? Thank you sir.
