Rear growling noise

Scotty, we have a 2013 Ford Edge

We have a 2013 Ford Edge SEL, V6 automatic with 117k miles on it. After a long trip we noticed that there was an increase in noise from the rear of the car. It increases with speed. I replaces the brakes/calipers and inspected the tires. But the vehicle still makes the noise. I'm thinking it could be a wheel bearing issue. Should I take it into a mechanic to confirm this or just get the parts and change them out. I'd like to avoid an easter egg hunt for the problem as much as I can. Thanks, John

If you are hearing growling noises from the rear check the wheel bearings back there.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking it might be. Was also wondering if it could be the rear differential. There isn't a drain plug on it and it doesn't have a cover plate like I've seen on previous cars. The manual lists the fluid to add to it, but in looking around online there doesn't really seem to be a process for changing this fluid out. I've seen some videos mention trying to siphon out the fluid. And another guy went so far as to drill a drain port and tap it out and install his own plug. I'm not comfortable going that far. But back to the wheel bearings, is it worth it to go to a mechanic to confirm a diagnosis or just skip that charge and replace the rear wheel bearings?

Here's a video showing how to change the rear differential oil in the Ford Edge:

If you cannot check the wheel bearings yourself that's what you should do - get a mechanic to check them.

Oops, I just noticed that video is for a Ford Escape, not an Edge! Procedure may be similar though.
