We drive over the snowy mountains in California a few times a year and frequently need to put on chains while all AWD's get to drive w/o chains.
Looking for a used vehicle that you recommend us looking into.

Hy!
I suggest you get snow chains even if you buy an AWD vehicle. Once I had to put them on AWD Suzuki Swift. Even with them I hardly drove uphill because there fell too much snow in few hours.

Anything Toyota would generally be good idea like Rav 4 or Highlander. Whatever you choose, have a mechanic check it out
