Hi Scotty, I did a Reverse jump start on G35x and jump cable is connected for 15–20 mins. The jumper cable connected in reverse Until I saw the smoke from jumper cable. Infiniti dealer checked my car and they said below items need to be replaced.
Fusible link is melted- $145
IPDM need to be replaced -$1475
Request service -$165
This is a basic level checkup ....what other components are burned out they don’t know. Could you help me to understand what can go wrong with reverse jump star.

Batteries and all the electronic modules onboard require a certain voltage to operate properly. When you reverse the polarity it’s not getting those voltages plus you can get a surge in electrical current, and if there’s not built in circuit protection you can damage components. Best case would be just blown fuses and damaged battery, but often times the damage extends to electrical components (including vehicle’s charging system) and electronic modules (and some of those can be very expensive to replace) along with jumper cables and the wiring.
try getting an IPDM from a junkyard and see if that helps. The fusible link shouldn't be necessary to make the car run for a few minutes.
