Scotty how you doing? Hope your haveing a good day. My parents’s ram has 52,000 miles, and when you shift it into gear, it makes a faint “clunk” sound. Dad says it maybe a worn U joint. What do you think?

Hard to believe it's a u joint at only 52K miles but it could be.  When was the last time the zerk fittings for the u joints were lubricated with grease??

Never

If you haven't done it already, you are over due for a transmission fluid and filter change.

I thought the window was 60,000 10-4 but it’s my parents and it’s hard to tell them a whole lot

Grab the rear drive shaft near the differential and push it up and down.  If you feel any play, you need to replace the u joints, same at the transmission.  I always lube my u  joints once a year at the least.  It's a maintenance item most people don't even think about.

I didn’t even know their were any fittings on their.

I’ll check that, and if that’s not it, what could it be?

It’s not a u joint, their all tight
