2005 Honda Cr-v SE Automatic, bought from a used car dealership recently, car has great service records but it seems to have some minor issues that I can't really figure out. It has a rough start, rough idle, a high RMP(settling at about 2k on normal city roads at 30mph) and getting all the way up to 3.5k when accelerating despite being sluggish, and it begins to shake whenever it hits 30-45 mph. At first I was sure it was a transmission issue, but the gears don't seem to be slipping, there's no leaks, no check engine light or code, no noises or shaking when changing gears, and no burning smell. I should note that sometimes when turning it on, it has a faint gas smell outside the vehicle, which made met think the spark plugs had gone bad replaced those but made no difference. I'm going to try a couple of other things later in the month such as fuel system and general air filters but I figured I'd try getting a solid guess on here first.

Did you have a mechanic check the car out before you bought it? Were any of these issues noticed before purchase? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Anything suspicious in live data?

@chucktobias I did infact, however they said they only did cosmetic checks, so things seen from outside the vehicle. They said that besides cracked ball joints that were still tight, they saw no outside issues with car. I should note that we got the car a state away, so this was not my normal mechanic. I do want to take it to my usual mechanic to see for any vacuum leaks if cleaning the system and changing the air filter doesn't work. The rough idling was present, I just chalked it up to it being an old vehicle. The rough start appeared as soon as we got home, and the high rpm appeared a couple of days ago.

As a start you could try cleaning the MAF sensor and throttle body but that thing is 20 years old and there could be any number of things wrong with it. There may be clues in the data.

@chucktobias ok this post got me thinking that maybe I should look for codes again, especially since a lot of these problems started recently. When I bought the vehicle it had no codes showing. Now it is showing Honda codes 86-1 CAN Relation Failure, 83-1 ECM/PCM Relation Failure, and 66-1 Brake Pressure Sensor Failure, as well as a high battery voltage. This has lead me to believe that either my battery is bad, which it shouldn't be as the shop tested it before we bought the vehicle, or that the wiring somewhere has gone bad.
