Scotty I drive a 1992 Nissan Maxima SE w/ standard transmission w/ 248,000 miles. About 3 months ago I replaced the MAF sensor and the car ran fine with no jerking / missing until just recently. I have also noticed when depressing the clutch the engine RPMs start to drop and the clutch petal sometimes is stiff when depressing the petal when shifting. So are these issues fixable by a DIYer? This vehicle is pre-OBD port.
It's pretty normal for the RPMs to dip when you release the clutch especially at your mileage and overall age of the car. The extent of the drop is what makes the biggest difference. On a car as old as yours I would look into cleaning the throttle body, all of it related parts, and make sure the air filter is clean. If the car is not stalling its most likely not an emergency but I would eliminate simple maintenance items first before diving into more substantial problems. Do those things or have them done and write back. Hope this helps!
