Changing the cabin air filter on a one owner 2012 Honda accord with clean car fax. Should I be concerned about small rust spots on the glove box hinges of all places. Asking for a friend.
Just because the CarFax says it's a one-car owner does not mean it is. Every vehicle I've ever owned has the different registrations correct, but, in the case of my mom's step dad, who bought a "certified used" Ford Escape in 2016, as a 2015 model year, it was flooded and CarFax didn't know it. It was a rental car before that. It was in Chicago, and it was flooded out, due to all of the rain that Chicago experienced that year. I noticed the mechanics were sloppy when they took out the rear seat and gouged the heck out of the car door frame. The transmission blew up around a month later and the mechanics at Ford figured out that there was mud in the transmission, because it wouldn't go out of 1st gear, and a transmission message came on the dash. Hondas are quality made, rust at all is highly suspect of water intrusion. It's only 11 years old. My '79 Catalina leaks from somewhere near the firewall, so I put a car cover on it. It's a 44-year old car that has a tiny bit of rust on the turn signal switch.
Should I be concerned about small rust spots on the glove box hinges
keep searching. See if there's rust or moisture on other bare metal edges, for example seat bases and tracks, in the trunk, etc.
It could indicate a water leak in the cabin
