Hey Scotty,
I it okay to buy salvage cars? I'm wondering this as 2 of my families last 3 cars have had salvage titles and are they fully functional? If a mechanic checks the car out and say's that it is in good shape, then would it affect the longevity of the car?
Here is a video Scotty posted that relates to your topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuevVVnWK-0&ab_channel=ScottyKilmer "Why Not to Buy a Salvage Car" - Apr 7, 2019.
Speaking personally my dad buys and sells only rebuilt title cars. Personally we've had a lot of luck with them but you should always be very cautious and take into consideration the risks compared to the benefits. One of the most important things you want to make sure that it doesn't have is any frame damage.
it makes more sense to get an older salvage car because it was written off is over 50% (hence car value is much less when older). theres probably a serious problem for a 5 yr old salvage car (unless body labour work is valued too high)
2nd question to ask urself are u saving that much more with the salvage title for its year and mileage over a similar one? im surprised this info is revealed to you because all those corner/street shops buy car from different states in order to wash title and show its not accidented. in conclusion, if its a major price difference for what you're getting ONLY buy it after you've done a bumper 2 bumper insepction from a reputable mechanic
