Hey Scotty, my mother-in-law has a Saturn Aura 2008 and her AC doesn't cool unless you push the gas or accelerator until it cools down while it is idle. also from the glove box there is a knock-knock noise.

Check that all fans on the radiator and condenser are operational. Also at that age it may be low on refrigerant, high and low side pressures should be checked with a manifold gauge set. (Avoid "recharge cans" with useless low-side gauges and loaded with potentially damaging sealers.)
it is not low on refrigerant because it cools after I push the accelerator for 5 minutes.
It's really necessary to check system pressures to get an idea of what's going on inside. Is the compressor engaging during the 5 minutes that you're waiting for the AC to work?
